Intro to Work in this Field
Biochar is widely recognized for its potential to enhance soil health by increasing soil organic matter, improving water retention and nutrient availability, and promoting overall crop health. This study focuses specifically on the nitrogen retention capabilities of biochar when applied in conjunction with liquid manure on sandy soils.
The primary objectives of this research are to:
1. Evaluate the effect of biochar on manure nitrogen mineralization and crop nitrogen use efficiency compared to conventional fertilizers.
2. Evaluate the effect of biochar on first-year manure nitrogen credits in corn
3. Investigate nitrogen movement throughout the soil profile.
4. Assess the year-over-year nitrogen retention capacity of biochar.
5. Utilize vegetation indices to optimize nitrogen application rates.
